Lawmakers raise concerns about antisemitism on college …

News /

House lawmakers are worried about a rise in antisemitism on college campuses. They are calling for an effort to combat this issue. University presidents were in the hot seat Tuesday, facing questions from lawmakers, like Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.), about how their schools respond to antisemitism on their campuses.

"How do we get into the mud and do the real work of fighting antisemitism," Bowman asked.

"The immediate action is very important and the calling out of the hateful action," University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill said. Since the October 7th attack, the anti-defamation league reports a more than 300% increase in antisemitism across the country.

For the second time in two days, a student reportedly brought a gun onto the campus of Redondo Union High School. The school went on lockdown Tuesday morning when authorities received a report of a weapon on campus sometime before 9:30 a.m., based on a message apparently sent to parents by school officials.

At about 10:45 a.m., the Redondo Beach Police Department announced on social media that a lockdown at the school had been lifted and the campus was "secured."

"A person has been detained and no other people are outstanding," police said. That person was later identified by the RBPD as a 15-year-old 10th-grader. The gun was never fired, and no injuries were reported.

Shows leave streaming services all the time, but rarely do shows that users have paid for to view on demand ever just stop working. Sony says it's because of a licensing dispute between the companies. KTLA's Andy Riesmeyer reports.

LA’s Vegan restaurants putting meat back on the menu

News /

A recent story by SF Gate outlines a change in the food landscape in LA: vegan restaurants are putting meat on the menu. Despite the conventional wisdom that L.A. is a haven for Vegans, some restaurant owners say serving only vegan options is too limiting and hurts their business. A Gallup poll done this year found that only 1% of Americans identify as vegan. Many have closed this year, but whether it has to do with their vegan dishes or because the lack of perceived health benefit compared to their fast food offerings is still up for debate. Christmas Grinches steal holiday decorations in Southern …

News /

As Southern Californians are prepping for the holidays and decorating the exteriors of their homes, thieves targeting a Moreno Valley neighborhood remain at large. On Dec. 1 at around 4:30 a.m., Alexandra Falcon’s surveillance video caught at least two suspects trespassing on her property on Calle Vejar.

“A group of guys were on my lawn and on my neighbors as well and they had unplugged from the extension chord two of our inflatables,” Falcon said. The woman’s security cameras captured at least two people stealing Christmas decorations from the homes on her street. Video from Falcon and her neighbor across the street shows a man approaching Falcon's home, then walking away. Minutes later, he returns to grab the holiday inflatables from her front lawn and calmly walks away.

KTLA's Shelby Nelson reports on Dec. 5, 2023.
