Los Angeles International Airport is bracing for its busiest weekend since early 2020.

The airport hit a single-day, post-pandemic record of over 224,000 travelers on Thursday, the airport announced. "We expect the remainder of the Memorial Day travel period to continue to be extremely busy."

LAX officials are anticipating 214,000 passengers on Friday, 205,000 on Monday, and 1.2 million total for the Memorial Day travel period (Thursday-Monday).

“Memorial Day weekend is just the start of what will be a very busy summer travel season at LAX where we expect passenger traffic to reach the highest levels we have seen in the past several years,” said Justin Erbacci, CEO of Los Angeles World Airports.

WeHo Pride Weekend kicked off on Friday, and festivities continue all day Saturday before the Pride Parade on Sunday, June 4 in West Hollywood. A street fair featuring dozens of performers and exhibitors will take place from noon to 10 p.m. on Santa Monica Boulevard on Saturday and Sunday.

The OUTLOUD @ WeHo Pride music festival at West Hollywood Park also starts on Saturday, featuring artists like Grace Jones, Carly Rae Jepsen and Princess Nokia.

In addition, the Women’s Freedom Festival featuring musicians, comedians, poets and activists will take place at the Community Stage on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. The Dyke March, a motorcycle-led parade, follows the Women’s Freedom Festival.

In honor of National Gun Violence Awareness Day, the Urban Peace Institute and Moms Demand Action hosted the 2nd Annual Peace Walk & Healing Yoga event in Echo Park on Saturday.

The event included remarks from community violence intervention workers and gun violence survivors and experts, in addition to a healing yoga session. The event aims to honor the lives of those affected by gun violence and raise awareness of violence reduction solutions, such as gun safety legislation and community violence intervention.

Rescuers found no more survivors in the overturned and mangled wreckage of two passenger trains that derailed in eastern India, killing more than 280 people and injuring hundreds in one of the country’s deadliest rail crashes in decades, officials said Saturday.

Chaotic scenes erupted after the derailment on Friday night about 220 kilometers (137 miles) southwest of Kolkata, as rescuers climbed atop the wrecked trains to break open doors and windows using cutting torches.

The death toll rose steadily throughout the night. Scores of bodies, covered by white sheets, lay on the ground near the tracks while locals and rescuers raced to free the hundreds of people trapped in the rail cars under the twisted metal and broken glass. Army soldiers and air force helicopters joined the effort.
