Covered in bruises and scrapes, a bicyclist considers himself incredibly lucky to have survived being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Riverside County.
“Nobody stopped,” recalled Alvaro Cortez, the 53-year-old victim. “They just did the damage and kept on going.” At around 6 a.m., Alvaro was riding his bike to the Corona train station on his way to work.
As he arrived near River Road, just before Bluff Street in Norco, suddenly a driver crashed into him from behind. They never pulled over and kept on driving away. Alvaro was knocked unconscious and left on the side of the road. His bike was shattered into pieces.

Republican presidential candidates are looking for breakout moments and voters’ attention when they meet Wednesday night in Simi Valley, Calif., for the second primary debate. It starts just an hour after the 2024 front-runner headlines an event in Michigan.
Seven candidates, all polling well behind former President Trump, met the Republican National Committee (RNC) criteria to participate: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, conservative entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former Vice President Mike Pence, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.

Two people are in custody after a dangerous pursuit through downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday night.
During the chase, the driver was seen weaving through tight surface streets, driving on the wrong sides of the road and narrowly missing nearby vehicles at times.
